The Hunger Games

To be honest, I didn't expect much when I started reading The Hunger Games. But after like...the 1st paragraph, I was hooked. I couldn't put that book down. Not once.
It's one of those books where the world as we know it pretty much ends and the government takes a new approach. In the hunger games, the new approach is pretty sick. The country of 'Panem' is divided into 13 sects. One of which is the Capitol.
The Capitol of Panem is where the wealthy and powerful people of the nation reside. Not only are the Games controlled from this point, but so are the twelve (previously thirteen) districts. The Capitol is a dictatorship that was run by President Snow. It is also the only major city to be mentioned. It is thought to be located in the northwestern section of the United States of America, seemingly in the Rocky Mountains.
Then there are the districts. The districts harvest great amounts of resources, such as fish, coal, lumber, crops, and gems, they must export almost all of their resources to serve the Capitol's citizens. As a result, many districts, such as 12 and 11, do not have enough coal to power their own district or enough food to feed their citizens (respectively). Districts 1, 2, and 4 generally have a better relationship with the Capitol and therefore receive more, have better food, and are graced with other various goods. So, the districts are basically the slaves of the Capitol.
Then, there are the Games. The Hunger Games take place annually in the country of Panem. Every year, one boy and one girl between ages 12 and 18 is selected from each of the twelve districts as tributes, who prepare for a week and then go into an outdoor arena to fight to the death. The event is nationally televised as mandatory viewing for all citizens and the last living tribute is declared the winner. Pretty sick, right?
So the main character's(Katniss) sister is picked to be in the games and she's like "NO!!!!" So she volunteers to take her place. And the chosen boy is this baker boy, Peeta. They own the interviews and all that stuff and pretend to be friends to make a show, then during the games they end up falling in love, and yada yada. Everything after that would be considered a spoiler so...I guess I'm done!
If you read this book, you should let me know what you think, and if this review covers it all.
BTW, I reallyyyyyy liked this book. You should read it.
